This is my first hat pattern!

My testers had some issues with sizing so this is a summary of what they said! It really depends on your yarn and your hook size. The testers who used Red heart and a size G hook (like the pattern calls for) got a hat that fit a 3-6 month old. Some even said it fit a newborn so it depends on how tightly you crochet. An H hook made a hat suitable for a 9 month old etc.

If you use Vanna’s Choice, a much nicer feeling yarn, then a G hook would give you a 6-9 months size. Vanna’s Choice with an I hook would fit a 1 year old (17” head). Vanna’s Choice with a J hook hit a 3 year old (18” head).

ETA 10/1/2013: I made this pattern last year when my little girl was 6 months old. For those of you wanting to know my gauge - it was approximately 3dc’s per inch wide and my dc’s are a little less than 1/2” tall. The hat is quite stretchy and infact at 18 months still fits her, except it’s a bit short. You can always repeat Row 10 twice to get a little extra length if you want it to fit a little longer.

An update was posted on 10/7/13 to correct the stitch counts on Rows 4-10
