These mitts were inspired by Prince’s song and movie “Purple Rain.” This pattern is available as part of a 4-pattern ebook including hat, cowl and neckwarmer.

Pattern has been test knitted by multiple knitters and tech edited by Lauren Cross (crazyl).

Skills learned: Beading (full photo tutorial provided) and cabling without a cable needle (instructions provided)

Skill Level: Intermediate or Adventurous Beginner

Size: Woman’s Small, Medium, and Large. Directions are written for size S with changes for sizes M and L in parentheses

Gauge: 19.5 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch, unblocked

Materials:

  • Size 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles (at least 32” cable for magic loop) or double pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet Hook ( any size between 0.75 – 1.25mm) for beading purposes
  • Approx. 20-24 size E or 5/0 glass seed beads
  • Stitch markers (3)
  • Tapestry needle

Yarn: approx. 120 yards Worsted weight yarn. Used in photo: Malabrigo Merino Worsted (Purple Mystery)
