While I am a crazy crocheter, I am also an avid knitter!

I subscribe to an email newsletter from a knitting designer who is well-known for shawls started using the “garter tab” cast-on method. (For you non-knitters, garter tab cast-on is created by knitting a small rectangle- the “tab”- and then stitches are picked up from two sides to create live stitches on three of the four sides, this creates a semi-circle shawl.) After making many KNITTED shawls this way, I figured there had to be a way to translate this to crochet.

I experimented for a while, and I figured out my own way to crochet a garter tab cast on (hence the project name!). This project starts with a small crocheted rectangle and turns into a semi-circle shawl.

This shawl uses 2 skeins (at 436 yards each) of fingering weight yarn and a G hook to create a lovely drape.
