Qanik is one of the Inuit words for snow. If I’ve done my research right, it means “Snow in the air.” With the pile of snowballs around the main body of the hat and the snowflakes falling at the top, it seemed to be the perfect name for this design. I love colorwork -- not just as a design feature, but also for the way it makes a super warm hat. This hat design, knit in the beautifully warm and soft Spunky Eclectic Targhee Classic, has both function and flair.

If you’re spinning yarn for this project, you will need 60 yards for the accent color and approximately 120 yards in each of the main colors.

This hat is meant to fit like a close fitting ski cap. It should be snug against your head. My model is wearing a S/M and has a 20 inch head.

This hat is the second in the series of hats I’m working on for Spunky Eclectic’s yarns Winter 2014 series. When my kids saw this hat for the photo shoot (one of my kids is the model) they both asked for it for Christmas. It’s so warm and snug. Just perfect.
