If you want to travel through space quickly, one method you might want to use is a jumpgate, which consists of four struts that create stable forces of different polarities. When opened, they create a vortex that can be used to enter hyperspace. Sure, the vortex isn’t all that stable, but it’s one way to get where you’re going. No one really knows who created the jumpgates, and the Quantonium 40 substance that’s used to make them is radioactive, but they are awfully handy. These socks are handy too. Or footy.
