For the full backstory on this pattern, why I wrote it, and our campaign to create five dozen knockers and almost two dozen pairs of knockers for the 2019 holidays, have a look at the companion pattern: Perfectly Reasonable Packer.

There are several good knocker patterns already available, both on Rav and elsewhere, but for the most part they use single crochet, which I find slow and laborious. Since we’re trying to make 20 pairs of these - which means 40 individual knockers - in a short amount of time, I wanted something with far more instant gratification. I like half double crochet because it creates a dense enough fabric much faster than single crochet.

I also found the patterns I had on hand confusing and difficult to follow. I’m not a very experienced crocheter, so I wanted something easy to follow AND faster to produce. What I particularly like about this pattern is that, once you know how to spot the increases and decreases in the fabric, you don’t need to count any more. I am big on not counting!
