I had originally wanted to design this cloth with the giraffes facing forward, but after several tries of different techniques for making eyes, nothing looked right. Sigh. I was ready to tear out the cloth but then the idea occurred to me to make the giraffes facing away. If you have an idea for eyes for the giraffes, I would LOVE to see what you come up with!

This pattern is the eighth in a series of “Quilter’s” patterns. All these patterns have the same number of stitches and rows so that they could be sewn into a blanket, if so desired. (I am not known for designing patterns of consistent dimensions.)

You will need one 50 gr ball of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn. The finished dimensions of this cloth are 9 1/4”W x 9”H and it weighs in at 43 gr. Only a basic understanding of knitting is required to knit this dishcloth: Cast on, cast off, knit and purl stitches. To make the tail, a knowledge of how to braid.

For best results knitting ‘picture’ dishcloths, use a size or two smaller needle than you usually would for the given yarn, choose a solid colour yarn and block your finished dishcloth.

Thanks so much, as always, to Tunie, who invariably has multiple knitting projects on the go but is always willing to put all aside to test knit another pattern for me.
