I designed the Quiltish Baby Blanket around the idea of an heirloom quilt.
The design is practical and a bit rustic in design, but the end result is beautiful.
The blanket uses small amounts of yarn for each motif - which is a great way to use up yarn that you might already have in your stash.

The blanket is based on a single square motif that begins with a center garter stitch square, knit in the main color.
Upon completion of the center square, stitches are either knit, or picked up and knit, along each of the edges to create 4 triangles in a contrasting color - which results in a ‘square inside of a square’.

The finished baby blanket consists of 9 squares joined together (although you could easily make it larger by knitting more squares).
After joining all 9 squares, a garter stitch border is picked up in a 2nd contrasting color on each of the 4 sides, to frame the quilt.

Required skills include knitting, decreasing (k2tog, ssk and s2kp), picking up and knitting stitches, and binding off.
The blanket requires a total of approximately 825 yds worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles.

Recommended gauge is 4 sts per inch in garter stitch.
Exact gauge is not critical, but will affect the finished size and amount of yarn used.
Change needle size as necessary, to achieve gauge and/or a fabric that you like.

Each square motif can be knit with either straight or circular needles - your choice. However, you will need a circular needle (24” or longer) for each of the borders.

The sample was knit with Berocco Vintage yarn
MC - #5101/Mochi - 325 yds (2 skeins);
CC1 - #5106/Smoke - 375 yds (2 skeins);
CC2 - #5107/Cracked Pepper - 125 yds (1 skein).

I hope that you’ll enjoy knitting this blanket, and the recipient will enjoy using it for many years!
