This hat will probably get the hard core Star Wars fan really upset, because it IS NOT an exact replica of R2-D2’s head - however, it’s close enough and the instructions are relatively simple.
This hat is crocheted using very bulky yarn, which makes it a quick crochet. I like to use half double crochet because it’s tight enough to be warm, while still softer than single crochet normally is.
This pattern was written for and tested on a 7 year old. However, you can make the hat to fit your child (or other recipient) by adjusting the yarn weight or hook size.
You’ll need 1 skein of bulky grey yarn, 1 skein of bulky blue yarn with a 9mm hook for the main hat, and a small amount of worsted weight black & red yarn (with a smaller hook - 4-4.5 mm) for the buttons.
