Rae-socks have a textured stitch pattern and a heel wedge type heel which is worked both cuff down and toe up without picking up stitches.

The pattern has instructions for both CUFF DOWN and TOE UP socks for fingering, sport and worsted weigh yarn.

The pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be modified for double pointed needles.

FINGERING VERSION

Sizes

S (56 sts), M (64 sts) and L (72 sts)

Yarn

100 g of fingering weight yarn, app. 400 m/ 437 yds per 100 g. The sample socks were knitted with Austermann Step Classic (75% Merino, 25% Nylon) in colourway 1000 White, 420 m/ 459 yds per 100 g.

Needles & notions

2.75 mm/ US 2 circular needle (80 cm/ 32 inches long or longer) or size to meet the gauge
markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

36 sts x 48 rows = 10x10 cm/ 4x4 inches in stockinette stitch after blocking

SPORT VERSION

Sizes

S (52 sts), M (60 sts) and L (68 sts)

Yarn

100 g of sport/Dk weight yarn, app. 260 m/ 284 yds per 100 g. The sample socks were knitted with Viking of Norway Frøya (80% Wool, 20% Nylon) in colourway 280 Beige, 150 m/ 164 yds per 50 g.

WORSTED VERSION

S (40 sts), M (48 sts) and L (56 sts)

Yarn

100-150 g of worsted weight yarn, app. 200 m/ 219 yds per 100 g. The sample socks were knitted with Novita 7 Veljestä Nature (70% Merino, 30% Tencel) in colourway 502, 200 m/ 219 yds per 100 g.
