I love Latvian Braids. So here’s a quick fun knit that will help you learn how to knit Latvian Braids and hopefully love them too!
I used a tubular cast on, but your favourite cast on will work, just knit 2 more rounds of k1, p1 ribbing in the cuff.
I didn’t like the joins when working braids in the round, so I worked on a “fix” and developed a tutorial that will help you make those braid joins almost seamless.
The tutorial is included in the pattern.
You can make these mittens with or without the “fix”, they’ll still be cute!
Instructions are for one size only and will fit most teens and adults with a hand circumference of approximately 19-22cm, when knit with #4 worsted weight yarn and size 3.75mm needles.
I’ve also included a link to the Stitch Fiddle chart for those of you who like to knit from charts.
This pattern has not been test knit by others

Update: To make an even smoother fix for Over First Latvian braid, replace the instructions for Round 2 on page 6 with the following-
Bring CC over MC and purl the first stitch. Bring MC over CC and purl the second stitch.
Always bringing the next color over the last worked, * p1CC, p1MC. Rep from * until 2 st remain.
p1CC, bringing MC under CC, p1.
Bring the MC yarn to the back between the needles, slip this last st back to the left needle, bring MC yarn forward, slip the st back to the right needle.
