A colourful collection of choker sets.

Rainbows are traditionally a sign of hope, despite the various meanings which have become attached to them in more modern times. Everything about them has always fascinated me, even the science. Dreamcatchers also symbolise good things. Besides, with a name like “Rainbow Valley”, how could I not design a set like this.

As always, the thread I have used is DMC Petra. I love the way this thread feels - and the fact it is machine. It comes in 100g balls. You can also use DMC Perle which comes in 25m skeins or 10g balls.

Working with beads: In many cases, especially with seed beads, the larger needle you need to thread the cotton through is too big to go through the bead. This is easily solved by threading a beading needle with beading or sewing thread and tying it into a loop to make a larger “eye”. You can then thread the cotton through the thread eye and slide the beads down the needle and thread eye and on to the cotton. When making your stitches, the beads always fall to the back of the stitch, making this the front of the work.

Materials: Each set has the approximate individual amounts used for that set. Please make sure you buy plenty if using Perle rather than Petra. All jewellery findings are available from good suppliers or on eBay. When using the hoops for the Dreamcatcher earrings, make sure you fix the ends firmly before starting. They are made to come apart to thread beads on.
