The diamond shapes in this pattern rise up off the smooth surface of the stockinette thanks to the Showy Decrease, a modification of the standard k2tog or ssk decrease that adds height and texture to patterns. Another benefit of this technique is that right and left leaning decreases are perfectly matched.

The Parallelity Scarf demonstrates the Showy Decrease with a simple line of right leaning decreases. This Raised Diamond Points pattern takes this up a notch with both right and left leaning decreases and a beautiful double decrease join. This pattern was a real favorite with our test knitters who enjoyed the emergence of the raised diamonds. The pattern includes a tutorial for the Showy Decrease.

There’s more information available on the KnittingNuances.com web site where you can download free sample pages of the pattern and find links to our Photobucket site which has more detailed pictures of the project and skills used.
