This 10 pages Miniature crown pattern includes detailed instructions with plenty of photo references to instruct you on how to crochet miniature.

Create by Marina Filippova.

This pattern is suitable for those with beginner crochet skills and have knowledge of magic ring/circle, crocheting in spirals, chain, single crochet, double crochet, single crochet increase and invisible decrease, basic sewing and embroidery techniques.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

1.Crochet hook up to 1.2 mm. My birds in the photo – the white and the black crowns – are crocheted with a 1.15 mm hook, very tight. The bluebird was crocheted with 1.4 mm hook. To my taste, a 1-1.2 mm hook is better for this pattern. For the eyes and legs thinner yarn and small hook (I have 0.75 mm) are needed so that the proportions of the bird look harmonious. However you can use suitable ready-made eyes and do not crochet legs at all! Or make them frame – wrap the wire frame with yarn of the chosen color on a layer of glue. The image will take place anyway. The smallest black crow was crocheted with the hook 0,6 mm in size. For it’s setting up I used beads for the eyes.

  1. Yarn for crocheting of two colors: different colors for the beak and body, preferably of the same or very similar thickness. Cotton thread is perfect here, but you can also crochet with acrylic, semi-wool, etc. – at your discretion. Choose yarn based on the recommended hook size and the density of your crocheting. For the eyes and legs you will need thinner yarn and a smaller hook. I prefer using yarn to match the beak for the paws. The eyes can be white, blue, yellow and etc. – everything that fits the image you have in mind.

  2. Toy stuffing (fiber filler).

  3. Small beads for the pupils of the eyes. The smaller your bird is, the smaller beads you will need. For sewing on beads I use fishing line. You can use bobbin thread or monofilament. Or you can just use ready-made eyes of a suitable size.

  4. Sew-on small pin-clasp for a brooch. The size of it is selected based on the size of the bird – it should not be visible after sewing on the front side of the brooch.

  5. A needle for assembling (with an eyelet of a suitable size to insert our crochet thread), a needle for sewing on beads.

  6. A bit of acrylic varnish. I work with polymer clay varnish. You can try replacing the varnish with PVA glue. If necessary, varnish is used to fix the legs (soak, strengthen thin parts so that they keep their shape). This point is optional. Strengthening and additional fixation may not be necessary depending on the yarn you are using, the density of your crochet and how you sew the feet. Some info about sewing may be found in description below.

  7. Materials for tinting. It can be dry pastel, eyeshadow without mother-of-pearl. Perform tinting as desired, if you want to emphasize the eyes (put a shadow around the eye).

  8. Materials for decorating your bird – select at your discretion. You don’t need to use any additional decor at all. Or you can embroider a birdie with French knots or beads.
