I designed these fingerless mitts specifically to show off my hand-painted Mohair Silk Lace yarn. It’s a gorgeously soft yarn, and makes a beautiful pair of mittens suitable for evening and bridal wear, as well as just keeping warm on those cold days.

The ribbed cuff starts with a simple ruffle edging, which gives a slightly dressier look to the mitts.

The size is adjusted by changing needle size, so it’s easy to make them smaller or larger to suit, and the length is also adjustable. Knitted on a set of double pointed needles, they could also be knitted on circulars if you’ve mastered one of the various techniques used for socks.

A single 50g skein of yarn will make two pairs - so you can make one for yourself and another as a gift! Or you could make the cuffs much longer, reaching to the elbows, and you’ll have some very posh evening mittens - trip to the opera, anyone?

The lace pattern, which covers the back and palms of the mitts, is based on a simple 16 row repeat, so would be reasonably easy for a newcomer to knitting in the round.
