This pattern is a small tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. To all that RBG did for us and all that she stood for.

Great to wear while voting out wannabe tyrants

Also while grocery shopping

And while having dinner with family

Or while taking a walk

Really, when do you NOT want to wear a collar reminding yourself and those around you to #resist and #dissent and to never take the rights we have for granted?

This pattern is infinitely adjustable. For a closer-to-the-neck collar simply cast on less stitches to start. Stitch count just needs to be divisible by 6. Casting on less stitches may work best with a larger (thicker) needle and/or a shorter cable. Do not worry too much about recommended needle size for your yarn as lace stitches can look great, sometimes better, on a larger needle.

You can also make the collar deeper/longer by adding more rounds of lace. Make an entire elegant cape shawl collar with dozens of lace rows!

This pattern grows during blocking. I used a cotton yarn. Remember that wool will stretch considerably more during blocking, resulting in a wider band of lace and a larger center circumference. To predict the exact dimensions of your finished collar, knit and block a lace swatch in your chosen yarn.

I finished the second collar!
I personally prefer the look of the collar made using a larger needle (both used the same yarn) with less starting stitches. This allows the lace stitches to really open up and show off. The collar ended up larger and wider. I did add one additional row of lace, but mostly the size difference is due to the larger needle.
The final photo here shows both collars. The first (thinner, on top) was made using a size 5 needle, sport weight yarn, 108 stitches to start, and 6 rows of lace in total.
The second (wider, below) collar was made using a size 7 needle, the same sport weight yarn, 90 stitches to start and 7 rows of lace in total.
