Reason Hat & Cowls
A quick knit that uses only 1 skein of a chunky yarn? What’s not to like?
This is the 7th in my A Single Candle series, and is named Reason. I had been toying with a quote from Benjamin Franklin: If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins. I thought it was perfect until I saw one from Zeno of Citium, which I thought could be a little more appropriate right now: The reason we have two ears and only one mouth, is that we may hear more and speak less.
The hat and one of the cowls is worked in the round from the bottom up, and edged with seed stitch. The chunky cables add a bold touch. The other cowl is worked back and forth and has buttons added for a slightly different look.
Finished Measurements:
Hat: 18 3/4 (21 1/4)“ / 47.5 (54) cm circumference, and 7 1/2 (8 3/4)” / 19 (22) cm tall
Cowl 1: 21” / 53.5 cm circumference and 7” / 18 cm tall
Cowl 2: 20” / 51 cm circumference, buttoned, and 6 3/4” / 17 cm tall

All were worked in color Dirt Road.
Hat: 72 (95) yds / 66 (87) m
Cowl 1: 103 yds / 94 m
Cowl 2: 105 yds / 96 m
