We’ve all got that one skein - maybe two - of a colorway that we couldn’t resist buying but have no idea what to make with it. That’s what inspired me to design the Reciprocal shawl! Reciprocal features a moss stitch motif with a garter stitch eyelet border. These simple textures complement the beauty of your semi-solid or variegated yarns without competing with them, and being the reciprocal of each other front to back, the stitch motifs result in a shawl that is easy to style. Designed in two sizes for either fingering or DK weight yarn, Reciprocal can be easily adapted to virtually any yarn you want to use.

Yarn Requirements:

Small: Fingering weight – 400 yards (365 meters); DK weight – 231 yards (211 meters)
Large: Fingering weight – 800 yards (732 meters); DK weight – 461 yards (422 meters)

While this shawl was designed and sampled in both fingering weight and DK weight yarns, you can easily adapt this pattern for other yarn weights, using the given yardage recommendations as a starting point.

Needles:

Fingering weight: US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles with at least 24” (60cm) cable, or your preferred needle type for working flat.
DK weight: US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles with at least 24” (60cm) cable, or your preferred needle type for working flat.
