Make your own Red Wolf! This pattern gives detailed instructions to crochet a realistic-looking Red Wolf. Red Wolves historically ranged across the Southeastern US, but campaigns of extermination, habitat destruction and hybridization with coyotes led to the species being declared extinct in the wild in 1980. Since then, a network of zoos and conservation centers, with the support of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, have created captive breeding programs working to restore the population. Even so, the current population of wild Red Wolves hovers around 30 individuals as of 2026.

A finished Red Wolf made using Worsted Weight yarn is approximately 20” long from nose to tail, 16” tall from bottom of the foot to tip of the ear and 6” wide across the hips.
