“Reflected is a reversible shawl made of two mirrored parallelograms in a biased rib. The two parallelograms together make a form that resembles a pair of wings and drapes naturally over the body in a comforting way. The fabric is a mix of two lace-weight yarns from two different brands. One is a soft Corriedale-Merino blend, and the other is a silk noil that looks like tweed and feels like cotton. When worked together they make a light and drapey fabric that feels wonderful. A contrasting color is added to make ephemeral marl stripes and is also used in the neckline to give the edge both physical and visual gravitas. The stitch pattern is easy—it’s a 2-row pattern—so both the process of making Reflected and wearing it should be joyful. In the spirit of mixing bases and encouraging creativity, the pattern can be easily adapted to other yarns and colors so each knitter can make their own unique version.”
Reflected is a reversible shawl with two mirrored parallelograms in a biased rib. The stitch pattern is an easy 2-row pattern. The edging is worked to create a lovely curl. The American designer Catherine Lowe has developed many beautiful handknitting techniques and this stockinette curl edging is one of them. It uses a pick-up-and-knit with very thin needles to avoid stretching-out the bind-off of the main piece, smaller needles to encourage the curl and give the edge some density, and a twisted slip-stitch selvedge to pull it in a bit.
