The pattern was inspired by the Victorian Regard ring where the word regard is spelled out as an acrostic in jewels - ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby and diamond.
The design starts with a lacy cuff, then a slipstitch pattern for the jewels. Around the toe is a little bit of colourwork to represent the scrolled gold of an old Regard ring.
The pattern is mostly written with a small chart for the colourwork at the start of the toe.
For this design I used Renaissance Dyeing Troubadour 4-ply Narbonne 20gms, Carmine 6gms, Maury 3gms, Troubadour 5gms, Castellan 25gms, Ecru 90gms. You might want to change around the colours for the heel and toe and the foot to suit your taste. The meaning of the sock, though, is in the colours used for the slip stitch pattern.
if you need a larger size than provided by the given gauge then using larger needles would be the best solution.
