We offer our Dimond Laine Birdie yarn in well over a hundred glorious hand-dyed colors. This alpaca and silk blend is a firm favorite for all kinds of projects -- held double, knit by itself, or stranded along with another yarn. For this project, we invite you to pick three colors and enjoy the color play of simple regimental stripes knit into this hybrid triangular shawl and cowl. It’s an easily styled piece that you’ll knit again and again!

Red cowl: Dimond Laine Birdie in colors MC Paisley, CC1 Waverly, and CC2 Pinafore.
Blue cowl: Dimond Laine Birdie in colors MC Alpine Flannel, CC1 Glass Jar, and CC2 Sour Apple.

One size.

Approx. 22” circumference at neck opening, 42” circumference at bottom x 20” deep along center spine.

Please note these are yarn estimates. The amount used will depend on yarn, your personal gauge, and any modifications you make.

Dimond Laine Birdie (74% alpaca, 26% silk; 328 yards per 50g): 3 skeins, 1 each in 3 different colors. Yarn held doubled throughout.

Fingering-weight yarn to hold double in the following amounts:
Total: 520 yards / 475m,
MC: 265 yards / 242m,
CC1: 185 yards / 169m,
CC2: 70 yards / 64m.

Note: If you are using a worsted-weight yarn held singly, you will need half of these yardage amounts.

Needles listed are suggested.

Gauge Needle: US 7 (4.5mm) 24” circular needle.

Darning needle, 5 markers.

Gauge is not critical for this project although it may affect yardage requirements; you want a finished fabric with drape and body.

Approx. 16 sts and 24 rows/rounds = 4” in Stockinette st using Gauge Needle, after blocking.
