Rent Shawl
The inspiration for this pattern is the iconic shawl seen on Claire in Season 1 Episode 5, when she travels with the rent collecting party. This shawl has been created in bulky alpaca wool, to create a dense, soft, and warm layer, ideal for chasing Highland adventures.
At first glance this shawl looks like a perfectly plain, garter stitch triangle with two coloured stripes. But look a little closer: the construction is very clever, and fun to knit, worked on the bias with intarsia. A simplified version of this pattern is provided, too, for a top-down triangular shawl with no short rows or intarsia required. The main difference visually will be that the rows will bias down instead of up.
Skills required:
Intarsia version: Intarsia, kitchener stitch/grafting
Simplified version: no special skills
Materials:
stitch markers, yarn needle
