Materials Needed
G hook 4.0mm
White cotton yarn
Red cotton yarn
Yellow cotton yarn
Black cotton yarn
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and embroidering eye.
Scissors
Starting chains count as a stitch throughout
Round 1
Magic circle, ch 3, 14 dc in mc, sl st into top of chain3
Round 2
Chain 3 dc in same st then 2 dc in each remaining st, sl st into top of chain 3 <30>
Round 3
Ch 3, 2dc in next st :1dc, 2dc: repeat : to : sl st into top of chain 3
Round 4
Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in 3rd st :1 dc, 1dc, 2dc: repeat : to :, leave 9 stitches unworked
Round 5
Chain 3, turn your work. Continue incr like Round 4 (dc,dc,2dc) will end on a 1dc
Scallop edging:
Round 6
Chain 1
, turn your work, 3dc in next 2 stitches. 1 sc in next 8 st, :3dc, 3dc, 1sc, 1sc: repeat : to: until end.
Tie off leaving a 3” tail.
Optional: Using embroidery needle attach 3” tail to where it could meet on Round 4 or just weave in ends.
Comb:
With red yarn
Attach to the single scallop, Chain 1, 3 dc in next 2 stitches, sl st in same st, Tie off.
Beak:
With yellow yarn
Attach around bottom of comb.
Ch 1, skip 2, 2 dc in 3rd st, Chain 1, 2 sc around 2nd dc. Slip stitch to next stitch.
Wattle:
Using red yarn
Attach under beak, Chain 2, 1 hdc in next 3 stitches, slip st in next. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Eye:
Using black yarn and an embroidery needle.
wrap yarn around a stitch around the center of the single scallop 3 or 4 times.
