The honeycomb design appeals to the engineering side of my mind. Using hexagonal cells, bees create a structure that is sturdy and an extremely efficient use of building materials and space. It also appeals to the other side of my mind where honeycombs conjure thoughts of warmth, safety and community. The Reversible Honeycomb Hat, Cowl & Scarf designs have double thick reversible cables that form warm, squishy hexagonal cells over a drapey garter stitch fabric. It will certainly be what you want to wrap yourself in this winter.

This cowl uses 2 colours of fingering weight yarn. The Main Colour creates the honeycomb pattern on one side of the cowl and the Contrast Colour is used for the i-cord cast on/cast off and creates the design on the other side of the cowl. The pattern is written for 2 sizes but the cowl is adjustable to any circumference and depth.

This cowl is knit in the round starting with a modified i-cord cast on. The reversible honeycomb design is made using Fusion Knitting. An i-cord cast off finishes the cowl. Only one yarn is worked at a time.

The longer cowl in the photos is knit in KnitCircus Opulence (The Sensible Ms. Dashwood/Hawaiin Sunset). The shorter cowl is knit in KnitCircus Greatest of Ease (Chimney Sweep/Vampire Boyfriend).

The Reversible Step Series is an introduction to Fusion Knitting.
Fusion Knitting Tutorials show how to do the most commonly used cables without the use of a cable needle.

A matching Reversible Honeycomb Hat and Reversible Honeycomb Scarf are also available.
