Revivify
In July of 2022, I took down all my patterns. A tiny handful are destined to return, most are not.
I’m still releasing new patterns (along with other fun projects). I just want to focus my time and energy on making new things rather than on maintaining a back catalog of hundreds of older patterns. But there are lots of new things planned, and I’m excited to share them with you!
If you want to follow along with what comes next or read a little more about why I made this change (and the nifty things that happened along the way), you can do that here.
And don’t worry, if you had the pattern in your ravelry library before it went away, it will still be there. It’s always a good idea to keep backups on your own computer (websites don’t last forever), but nothing I can do can take anything out of your library (and I wouldn’t even if I could). Taking the patterns down just means no on else can buy them.
Revivify verb to give new life or vigor to
I suspect that your life is more tidy and orderly than mine. You would never suffer the series of questionable choices that allow a plumbing emergency, a misunderstanding with the gas company, an out of town trip, and a bout of the sniffles to all happen at precisely the same time.
But I? I am occasionally beset by such a fate. And in those times, I need what I think of as distraction knitting. Something quick (because I want the satisfaction of finishing something), something easy (because the last thing I want is extra frustration), and something lovely (because that’s always a requirement). These little flared cuffs were my latest bout of distraction knitting and they did the job nicely.
The pair used just 100 yards of yarn (though of course you could use more if you wanted them to be longer), and took only a few hours each. That makes them perfect stash busters or gift projects if you’re planning ahead instead of dealing with an imminent emergency like I was! And flared cuffs are pretty much my favorite bit of kitting to actually wear (they’re so cute, and they really do keep my hands warm better than they have any right to). I’m convinced everyone should try a pair.
I suspect you should have this pattern on hand in case you ever find yourself in need of a bit of distraction knitting yourself. It’s written in three sizes and three gauges to fit almost any wrist. And it’s full of helpful bits and pieces (tips on lace charts, how to size your cuff, and how the heck to block something with this shape) that will make sure it’s an easy project. Just on the off chance I’m not the only one who occasionally has their life get complicated for a minute or two!
These are perfect for you if:
- You need something cute and satisfying and you need it now
- You’re looking for tiny projects to use up yarn leftovers (this pair took 100 yards of yarn, and I have big hands)
- Your hands are always cold but you still need your fingers free
They’re not for you if:
- You don’t like charts (the pattern uses charts)
- You hate swatching (you need to swatch to check your needle size)
