This cardi was born out of the desire to translate the beautiful intricate cables found in so many knitted pieces, to the neatness of Tunisian crochet. It’s actually the crochet translation of one of my beloved knitted sweater patterns, the Birka sweater. It is an intermediate level pattern not because of the construction - which is very simple - but because the nature of cables makes it so that you’ll have to get used to “dig” a bit for stitches until you get used to that.
Once you get the feel of it though, you’ll never want to stop! :)
Materials needed:
19 x 50g (~150-170m length) balls of DK yarn for size M, yarn is doubled when crocheting
Cabled 5mm / H/8 tunisian crochet hook with an at least 80cm / 31.4 “ long cable
Normal 5mm / H/8 crochet hook for the borders
Cable needle (spiral one works best but any will do); or secondary hook
Blunt needle for weaving in loose ends and sewing
50cm zipper in a color close to your yarn’s color
Dimensions (S / M / L )
Chest circumference: ~96 cm / 37¾“ / 104 cm / 41” /~112 cm / 44”
Front and back length (neckline to hem line): 56cm / 22”
Sleeve length: 60cm / 23.5”
