The men in my life ask for sturdy, heavy, wool work socks. Socks for rubber boots. Socks that will stand up to wear and socks that will keep their feet warm.

The slipped stitch ribbing pattern gives some interest in knitting, produces a nice texture and fit to the sock, and still meets with male approval in my family for a work sock.

The sample socks were knit with two skeins - one natural for cuff, heel, toe and one variegated for leg and foot.

The pattern is written with an afterthought heel but other heels could easily be substituted.
