Ridge Socks
With columns of slipped stitches and simple cables, the Ridge Socks are knitted from the toe up with a Fleegle Heel. These socks are an engaging and surprisingly easy to knit project, and they can be a great introduction to knitting cables.
Sizing
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)(6, 7, 8, 9)
Finished sock foot circumference: 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)(8.5, 9, 9.5, 10)” / 15 (16.5, 18, 19, 20)(21.5, 23, 24, 25.5) cm
These socks are designed to be worn with 0.5-1” / 1.25-2.5 cm of negative ease.
Intended to fit a foot circumference of: 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)(9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)” / 18 (19, 20, 21.5, 23)(24, 25.5, 26.5, 28) cm
If you’re between sizes I would recommend choosing the next size up, for example if your foot measures 8.25” / 21 cm, you would choose size 4, size 4 is intended to fit a foot circumference of 8.5” / 21.5 cm and result in a finished sock foot circumference of 7.5” / 19 cm. This means you’d have 0.75” / 2 cm of negative ease, which falls within the range for the recommended amount of negative ease.
To measure your foot circumference stand on a flat surface and measure around the widest part of your foot.
Yarn
This pattern requires fingering weight yarn. The amount of yarn required will vary depending on the size you knit and the length of your sock.
The sample socks are shown in size 3 and were knitted to fit the shoe size UK 4 / EU 37 / US 6 and I used 88 grams / 317 yards / 290 metres.
Suggested Yarn
1 skein of Woolly Mammoth Fibre Company Hearth Sock, colour ‘Mustard Green’ (50% Jacob, 50% Bluefaced Leicester) - 100 grams / 360 yards / 330 metres per skein.
Needles
Main fabric: 2.25mm (use the needle size needed to achieve gauge).
Ribbing: 2mm (use the needle size 0.25mm smaller than the main fabric needles).
Use your preferred type of needles for knitting socks, e.g. 32” / 80 cm circular for magic loop, 9” / 23 cm circular, or DPNs.
