Ridgeline Cardigan
The Ridgeline Cardi is a relaxed crew neck cardigan worked from the top down. It features saddle shoulders, simultaneous yoke/sleeve construction and a distinct seamless line running the length of each sleeve. There’s no pick up join or seam at the top of the sleeves; it just flows directly from the yoke which makes for a really fun and interesting knit.
Knit it in a single strand of 8 ply, or hold 4 ply together with laceweight silk mohair for a softer finish.
Construction: Saddle strips are worked first, then joined to work the yoke and sleeves as one piece down to the underarms. The body and sleeves are then worked separately. To finish, stitches are picked up around the neckline to knit the neckband.
Designed to be worn with approx 10-35 cm / 4-14” of positive ease at the bust, depending on your fit preference. Many knitters find they prefer more ease in the smaller sizes and less ease in the larger sizes.
Yarn: Worked from the top down in 8 ply yarn by itself OR 4 ply yarn held double with laceweight mohair. The sample was made using Wild Earth Yarns Eden 4ply (in Sky) held double with Drops Kidsilk mohair (in Light Jeans #8).
Yarn Quantity: 1160 (1250, 1350) (1440, 1620) (1720, 1800) metres / 1270 (1370, 1475) (1575, 1770) (1880, 1970) yards. If holding yarn double, you’ll need this amount in EACH yarn.
Finished Bust Circumference: 105 (115, 125) (135, 145) (155, 165) cm / 41.25 (45.25, 49.25) (53.25, 57) (61, 65)“
Your Bust Circumference: 70-95 (80-105, 90-115) (100-125, 110-135) (120-145, 130-155) cm / 27-37 (31-41, 35-45) (39-49, 43-53) (47-57, 51-61)“
Needles: 4.5 mm (US7) and 3.75 mm (US4) circular needles with an 80 m / 32” cord. The sleeves are worked in the round using the magic loop method. If you prefer to use DPNs then you will also need these in each needle size above.
Notions: Six stitch markers (incl one distinct marker for BOR, seven buttons (I used 1 cm / 0.5” diameter buttons but the pattern includes instructions for larger buttons too), one removable marker with a clasp or hook (optional), tape measure, yarn needle and scrap yarn.
Gauge: 20 sts x 28 rows in stockinette stitch
