Rippleback
The Rippleback sweater is a cozy, cropped, oversized cardigan, with continuous cable work along the yoke, chest, and back of the sweater to create a rippling water like motif, perfect for standing out at the farmer’s market or staying warm on chilly spring nights.
Worked from the top down seamlessly in super bulky yarn, this pattern flies off the needles using simple, repeated cable twists to create a larger design. Raglan style increases and shaping are used to create shoulders and sleeves, then sleeve sts are held on scrap yarn, picked up after the body is finished, and then knit in the round.
A crocheted drawstring is used for fastening however instruction for substituting a button closure are included in the pattern.
Required Materials
-8 balls of Bernat Softee Chunky (Super Bulky) Or 1000yds of super bulky yarn
-US size 10 (6mm) needle at least 10”
-US size 10.5 (6.5mm) circular needles, one with 24” cable, other
cable at least 80”
-US size 10.5 (6.5mm) Double Pointed Needles
-Cable Needle
-Tapestry Needle
-at least 5 stitch markers
-6.5mm crochet hook
Techniques Used
-Casting on
-basic knit and purl stitches
-make one right/left increases
-2x2 and 3x3 cable twists
-Slipping stitches with yarn held in front
-binding off in pattern
-basic crochet chain (optional)
Sizing
Pattern is designed to fit baggy through the arms and shoulders, and cropped more snugly towards the waist.
Finished measurements pre blocking:
Chest Circumference = 44”/112cm
Waist Circumference = 38”/96.5cm
underarm to wrist = 18”/45.75cm
