With its ring of flames, this design is inspired by the Phoenix, rising from the ashes to enjoy a stronger new life. The name of the design is an homage to researcher Brene´ Brown’s book by the same title which explores resilience and rising from shame.

The Hedgehog yarn and German cast-on technique used in this project provide quite a bit of stretch for a comfortable fit. The DK weight also makes for a warm and cozy head covering.

The hats shown on this page were worked using the following yarns:

Rust and Purple Hat:
1 skein each -
MC: Hedgehog Fibers Merino DK, 40z/115g; 218 yards/200 meters, 100% merino wool, Birthday Cake.
CC: Hedgehog Fibers Merino DK, 4oz/115g; 218 yards/200m,
100% merino wool, Rusty Nail.

Bright Orange and Brown Hat:
MC: The Yarn Collective Bloomsbury DK, 100% Merino Wool, 3.5oz/99g, 263 yds/243 meters, Copper.
CC: Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK, 100% Merino Wool, 4oz/115g, 218 yards/199 meters, Kid You Not.

You may also use 160 yards in total of two DK weight yarns. Roughly 100 yards of CC and 60 yards of the MC (used for the crown of the hat).

Sizes
Adult Extra-Small/Small (fits head sizes 19”-20”); Adult Medium/Large (fits head sizes 21”-23”)

I hope that you are inspired to rise strong from past shame, set-backs, and suffering as you knit and wear this hat.
