The gorgeously floaty ‘Ristie Poncho’ by @riggiesknitdesign Rachel Hunter

Inspired by a family holiday to the remote island of Foula, Rachel stayed at the idyllic Ristie self-catering accommodation at the north end of the isle. There she awoke every morning to see Foula sheep grazing in their array of coloured fleeces.

In her design Rachel’s used the ‘auld Shell’ lace motif and adapted it to a poncho, with small pompoms to accentuate the lace peaks instead of the more usual lace border.

Like a traditional hap, the garment is knitted on larger needles than you would ordinarily use for the yarn. This gives the fabric a light, airy, bouncy feel that will keep you warm on chilly evenings.
It’s beautiful and would work equally well in a variety of colours. Here it’s in naturally coloured yarn spun from 100% Foula Sheep Wool.

Foula Wool in white, moorit, black, mioget and fawn.
