I love spending time lounging around the beautiful swimming holes in the Texas Hill Country, like Barton Springs and Jacobs Well and countless others. I could stare up at that blue sky peaking through those live oak trees all day long. Luckily for those of us living here, it’s warm enough for us to do just that most of the year! It was during one of these pensive afternoons I came up with the idea for this shawl. Liza and I were teaching a brioche class that summer where we taught students how to combine brioche knitting with familiar and comforting stitches like garter and stockinette. I wanted something that featured a soft meandering brioche pattern reminiscent of the way the Colorado River winds its way through the Hill Country. And, so, the River and Stones Shawl was born. ‘River’ for the owing branchlike brioche pattern making up the body of the shawl and ‘Stones’ like the dapples of colors from the bicolor stockinette and garter stitches. I hope you enjoy knitting this beauty as much as I have!
