River Flow Mitts are sideways garter-stitch mittens designed to adapt to your gauge, your yarn, and your hand size. You can knit them in any yarn weight and for any hand size - from baby to XXL.

A custom calculator does all the sizing maths for you. You’ll find it on my website, together with guidance on yarn, measuring your hand, required tools, and other essential details:
https://www.knitimpression.com/rfm/

The calculator is free to use, it tells you exactly what width and height to knit for your hand (based on your measurements and gauge).
You can recalculate as many times as you like, for any size.
The mitt design has no fixed proportions, so you can easily adjust both height and width for your preferred fit.

I wanted perfect garter alignment and a fully seamless look, so I designed a new way to build the thumb: it is knitted together with the mitten body and shaped with short-row tapering. Both the cast-on and the bind-off are clean and tidy, and the final graft is invisible.

At first glance these garter-stitch mitts look simple. In reality, the construction is quite complex - but you don’t have to figure it out on your own. The pattern comes with an 50-page step-by-step photo tutorial and clear written instructions. You build the mitten like a small LEGO project, progressing through small, manageable steps. For the trickiest parts, you’ll also find video demonstrations to guide you through.

Knitting these mitts feels different from most mitten patterns, and you will need to slow down and pay attention. Thanks to the detailed tutorial, the pattern is still beginner-friendly: one of my testers had one year of knitting experience and successfully finished her pair.
