This shawl was inspired by my many trips to, and through, Florida. The most striking thing on any drive, for me, is how long and flat the roads are. But, as long as you aren’t heading north, you always end up at the ocean. This shawl is a great project for road trips, in front of the TV, or any time you don’t want a complicated shawl to work on. Easy rows of double crochet and filet stitches followed by a border that only looks complicated.

This will work well in other weights of yarn.

This pattern, as written, did not use a whole whirl. I still had the last three color changes left. You could get more rows if you want a bigger shawl. Not sure if you could get another 5 row repeat out of it or not. You may also have to adjust the final border as it is a repeat of 4 stitches.

A photo tutorial for the ocean wave border is included at the end of this pattern so you have the option of not printing it without disrupting the flow of the pattern.
