ROBBIE RACCOON is a cuddly child friendly stuffed animal that stands about 8 inches tall and 12 inches from toes to tip of tail. Because he has safety eyes, he is not recommended for children under 3 years of age. He is very well behaved most of the time, but tends to want to find snacks and treats making him a bit adventuresome and mischievous.

Materials:

Yarn: Originally, the raccoon used Lion Heart Jiffy acrylic yarn listed as “Bulky 5.” However since the printing of this pattern Lion Heart no longer makes this yarn, so if you cannot find it, I would recommend any of the following “hairy” yarns:

Buttercream “Angel Hair” and/or “Mohair Brushed” yarns, or Red Heart “Hygge“ or “Dreamy.” Be sure to watch thickness so strands match as closely as possible if intermixing brands or types of yarns for different colors.

Colors of fuzzy yarn required are: white, 2 shades of grey (dark and light), and black

ALSO:
Standard yarn: Red Heart Super Saver: Black.
Vanna’s Choice Lion Brand: Silver Heather (light grey)
Pattons Metallic black yarn (for jaw and 10 fingers)
Cranberry (or any small amount of red/cranberry yarn for tongue)

3.75mm hook (F)
3.25mm hook (D)
Polyester fiber fill for stuffing
Darning or tapestry needle
Animal Eyes 15mm

Rows are numbered. Number in ( ) is number of stitches in that row. means repeat that sequence

Abbreviations:

MC - Magic Circle
SC - Single Crochet
2 TOG - next 2 stitches together (decrease)
SLST - slip stitch
CH - chain stitch
HDC - half double crochet
FLO - front loop only
BLO - back loop only
changing color counts as a stitch

HINTS:

I would rate this as a medium level project because of the head design: changing colors back and forth, and managing four colors simultaneously. I don’t mean to discourage beginner crocheters, but do be aware of this. I have tried to make the directions as clear as possible with “counts” for colors. Photos are included to help.

To change colors, put hook through stitch where color is to change. Pull through first portion of single crochet, then pull through new color on second half (2 loops on hook) of single crochet. Proceed to next stitch with SC of new color. Single crochet a few stitches. Cut end of old color leaving about 3 inches of yarn. This should be knotted to new color end.
