Got a guy friend who is crazy about the stars? Here is a perfect gift.

This design was inspired by a person who works for Spacex. He requested a picture of a rocket for a co-worker. The rocket doesn’t look like the actual rockets that we use to go to space. I stylized it a bit so that it would show up nicely in the filet.

This pattern can be worked by anyone who knows how to do the basic filet stitches of open block, solid block, and lacet. I wrote the pattern with a fancy lacet for the sky so that you could see the fire of the rockets. But you don’t have to use the fancy lacet, you can choose either form of the lacet (original or fancy). Follow the instructions and make your choice.

If you are comfortable with a lacet stitch then the diamond block will not be difficult for you. Complete instructions and charts are provided.

The spider blocks around the edges look like star constellations when you add beads to them. The beading is optional. Instructions are included for beading.

Printing
Please look over the pattern before printing. The pattern has been separated into sections so that you can print only what you are going to use.

Pattern Features

  • There are clickable links to move around the pattern quickly.
  • A Random Information Section at the end to show the details of several projects that I made for this pattern.
  • Helpful tips and hints.
  • A section describing the filet stitches used in this pattern.
  • Choose whether you want to use a regular lacet or a fancy lacet.

This pattern is charted. You should be able to follow a filet chart with open and solid blocks. The stitch definition section will help you with the stitches. The written instructions are minimal and point you towards working exclusively from the charts.

The pattern is based on a 4-stitch filet block. This is the traditional method. This particular filet pattern would be difficult to translate to the 3 or 5 stitch block because of it’s extensive use of lacets and diamond blocks.

You can use yarn for this pattern. I just prefer thread work so my projects were worked with thread.

The most difficult section to work through this pattern are the first 5 rows where you work the fire section. It is only difficult because you are changing stitches quite a bit. If you are a beginner at filet then this might be too challenging for you.

A new stitch is introduced called the “diagonal block” where you place a diagonal stitch inside the block. This is used in the fire section.
