Written for the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop 2023: Under the Sea, this cowl features a bold accent inspired by the narwhal, a.k.a., the unicorn of the sea! Worked mostly flat and laced shut with a matching i-cord, you can change how it fits by leaving the last couple of inches unlaced, or change up the look by lacing with ribbon or leather cord.

This cowl is worked flat until the final ribbing, which is worked
in the round. After the first 12 rows of ribbing, you will be
keeping track of four things:

  • A border of 1x1 ribbing on each edge
  • The texture pattern over the body of the cowl, which involves a 6-row repeat (charted and written instructions)
  • Increases & decreases, which happen on every odd-numbered row between the ribbing and texture pattern
  • Eyelets, which happen every ten rows

You will need one 16-inch circular needle in US 6 and one set of DPNs in US 4 for the i-cord.
