Roll is a scarf that can be knit so long as you can cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. This project is intended to help new knitters practice the skills of matching knit and purl tension while forgiving mistakes like unmatched tension or incorrect placement of knit and purl stitches. The random nature of the heather-look stitch pattern will hide any misplaced or mis-tensioned stitches, giving you the freedom to practice while still loving your resulting project!

Once you’ve practiced these skills for half the length of the scarf using the random stitch pattern, you can progress your practice by adjusting to the randomized alternating stitch stripes. These stripes are perfect for working towards even knit and purl stitches while being varied enough to blend in any variations in tension as you practice.

If you don’t feel ready to progress to the stripes, you don’t have to! This Heather-look pattern can be continued for the length of your full scarf.
