Knit a cute hat or two for your favorite roller derby player or fan. These hats were inspired by the caps real life roller derby girls wear over their helmets during bouts and scrimmages to designate which players are the jammers and the pivots. Jammers score points and pivots lead the pack.

Instead of making the pivot (stripe) or jammer (star) patterns using colorwork, you knit solid color hats, then knit the embellishments separately and sew them on at the end.

If you are making a set of 2 small hats, a jammer hat and a pivot hat, the pattern is designed to make both hats using only 2 100 gram balls of yarn (or 4 50 gram balls). The medium and large sizes may require an extra ball of the main color, depending on your gauge.
