Designed to be made with one sock set or fingering weight yarn in approximately 100g of a main color and 20g of a contrasting color, this crescent shaped shawl starts in the center and is worked outwards. After making the body of the shawl with the main color, the contrasting color is used for a Picot bind off and to add an I-cord along the top edge of the shawl.

The sample features a Long Dog Yarn sock set inspired by a scene in the holiday movie “White Christmas.” I was excited to create a design highlighting the colors included in this set, which is inspired by a dress that Judy (played by Vera-Ellen) wears while dancing to the song the sock set is named after.

The shawl features rows of garter stitch alternating with sections of a lace motif, which creates interest in both the making and wearing of this accessory. The lace sections allow the wingspan and the depth of the shawl to grow while also providing loftiness to the shawl, making for a cozy feel around the neck.

Additional Information
Gauge is important for this project, particularly if making the Small size of the shawl. If your gauge differs, the amount of yarn used in each section will be different and you may run out of yarn before you reach the midway point or end of the shawl.

Gauge
21 sts x 48 rows = 4 in x 4 in (10 cm x 10 cm) in garter stitch

Note: Gauge may be important for this shawl if you are starting with less than 463 yds (423 m) of your MC. I used 450 yds (412 m) of MC and 51 yds (47 m) of CC in the sample.
If you are unable to match both stitch and row gauge, I recommend matching st gauge, but only if your row gauge is less than the row gauge listed above.
