Rombo is a tapestry crochet crossbody bag inspired by a geometric ceramic tile photographed in Gran Canaria, Spain. The repeating diamond motif was translated into crochet and forms the basis of the bag’s distinctive geometric design.

The pattern includes both written instructions and detailed charts for the bag body and shoulder strap. Optional embellishment ideas are included to customize the finished bag.

The bag is worked in continuous rounds using tapestry crochet techniques and is suitable for advanced beginners and intermediate crocheters. While the stitches themselves are straightforward, maintaining an even tension and working with multiple strands of yarn are important skills.

Finished size

  • Diameter: approximately 19 cm (7.5”)
  • Height: approximately 24 cm (9.5”)
  • Strap length: approximately 130 cm (51”)

Gauge
35 stitches and 20 rounds in single crochet through the back loop (scblo) = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4”).

Exact gauge is not critical but will affect the finished size of the bag.

  • Approximately 100 g (250 m / 275 yds) each of 5 colours of mercerized cotton. Sample shown in Schachenmayr Catania: Teddy, Baby Blue, Jeans, Capri and Monaco.
