Romper Bunny
If this is your first amigurumi (knit or crocheted stuffed animals) project, then be prepared to get “hooked”! It is just so fun seeing each one turn into a unique little character. And even more fun to gift it to a child and see their face light up! These make such sweet baby-gifts as well, you can wrap it up with the fun feeling of knowing no-one else will be giving a duplicate gift to yours since it is totally one-of-a-kind.
Another fun aspect of amigurumi projects, is that there are no finicky sizing concerns. You don’t need to be overly concerned about gauge or using a specific yarn weight as it doesn’t need to fit someone properly at the end as with a garment project.
This pattern is written to be easily understood by even a beginning crochet artist, but includes a couple special stitched which give it originality and will help to broaden and beginner’s repertoire of tricks.
Materials/Tools
I have used several different cotton blends for this bunny, one of my favorites is “Pima Suprema” from Hobby Lobby (a 4/medium weight) - with which I used a size F hook (this produces a bunny measuring 16 ½” from ear-tip to toe). The Pima Suprema is a 180 yard skein, you will need only one skein of each color (You will use over half of the body color, and around half of the romper color). Just keep in mind when selecting your fiber that it will need to have a decent body to it or your ears will be floppier-which still could be totally cute!
Colors needed: Body color (I used “Lace”), Romper color (I used “Lagoon“), Black for facial features. Optionals: Pink for the nose (black would also work just fine), Pink or Orange for freckles or check flushes .
A yarn needle for assembly.
