Knit a bold countryside icon with this Rooster Square Knitting Pattern! Featuring a proud white rooster with a striking red comb and wattles (those charming red features on its head), this vibrant block adds rustic flair to any knitting project. Worked flat with a tidy garter stitch border around a smooth stockinette center, this farm-inspired design is perfect for rooster-themed kitchen décor, pillows, Year of the Rooster gifts, or a statement piece on a tote or sweater.

The pattern includes a detailed colorwork chart and full row-by-row instructions, making it easy to bring this confident barnyard bird to life using intarsia or duplicate stitch. Ideal for lovers of country life, farmhouse style, or zodiac-inspired crafts!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
The final size of the project will depend on the yarn and needle size you choose. Here are examples for three different yarn weights:
Sport weight (5 ply) with 3.5 mm (US 4) needles:
37 × 37 cm (15″ × 15″) — approx. 120 g
DK (8 ply) or worsted weight (8 ply) with 3.75 mm - 4 mm (US 5-7) needles (sample shown): 46 × 46 cm (18″ × 18″) — approx. 140–180 g
Aran weight (10 ply) with 5.5 mm (US 9) needles:
52 × 52 cm (20″ × 20″) — approx. 250 g

MATERIALS NEEDED
I used DK weight (8 ply) yarn — 140 g of YarnArt Creative, 100% cotton, 50 g ≈ 85 m / 1.8 oz ≈ 93 yds
Knitting needles: 3.75 mm (US 5)
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
If you want to match the sample size, use DK yarn with a similar gauge. However, you’re free to use any yarn you like! This project is highly adaptable — just choose suitable needles for your yarn and enjoy the process.
