This rooster hat does require quite a bit of sewing pieces together, so if that tedious part annoys you, you may want to move on. BUT if you don’t mind that annoying detail, this is quite a fun hat to wear. I cannot be responsible for uncontrollable urges to put your hands in your armpits and do the chicken dance!

Any worsted weight will do, although I prefer Red Heart for the embellishments because it is a little more stiff. Yarn usage will depend on the size hat you chose. White (the predominant color) will vary from 130-220 yards with small amounts of black, red, and yellow being used. You will also need a tapestry needle, fiberfill and an H hook (or hook necessary to obtain gauge).

Stitches used: magic ring, sc, dc, hdc, sl st, tr

newborn hat circumference 14.8”, 3-6 months hat circumference-16”, 6-12 months hat circumference 17.2”, 12 months-3 years hat circumference 18.4”, 3-10 years hat circumference 18.4”, teen-small adult hat circumference 20”, adult hat circumference 21.2”

Even still, errors may have slipped through, if you happen to find one, please, don’t hesitate to let me know, I will do my best to fix it as fast as possible! This pattern was updated on November 13, 2016 to correct an error as well as add an additional way to attach eye flaps. :)
