Rose Buds Shawl
The Rose Buds Shawl is a deep, reversible shawl worked in syncopated two-color brioche, with soft rosebud motifs running through the fabric.
The pattern is worked in syncopated two-color brioche. A free video tutorial accompanies it in knit-along format, so you can see how to work every stitch. The written instructions are given row by row, with the syncopated sections highlighted so they are easy to identify and you never lose your place. A full color chart is included alongside the written rows.
This is not a beginner project. The step-by-step videos walk you through every stitch, so if you’ve got the basics of knitting down and want to take on two-color brioche, you’ll be well supported.
FOLLOW ALONG FREE:
The full knit-along is also free to follow on my YouTube channel, released in three weekly parts (video only). This pattern gives you the complete written instructions plus all three videos in one place, so you can knit the whole shawl at your own pace without waiting week to week.
PATTERN INCLUDES:
- Full color chart
- Written row-by-row instructions, syncopated sections highlighted
- Abbreviations and special-stitch guide
- Cast-on and bind-off instructions
- Links to all three video tutorials
- Excerpts from the Understanding Brioche and Reading Charts sections of my book

CC: 452 yds (413 m) DK weight yarn
Sample: Vintage Cotton in Dark Green (MC) and Alize Baby Best in # 354 (CC)
NEEDLES:
US 2 (2.75 mm), 40” (100 cm) circular needles

NOTIONS:
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, row counter (recommended)
GAUGE:
17 sts and 50 rows = 4” (10 cm) in two-color brioche rib pattern, after blocking
NOTES:
This shawl is worked bottom-up and is quite deep by design. When blocking, favor width over length, pinning it out wider will relax some of that depth back in. For less depth overall, swap the cotton for a lighter wool or wool-blend yarn: cotton’s extra weight keeps pulling the fabric downward, even after blocking, while wool holds its shape better.
This shawl is part of my upcoming book, Brioche Knitting: A Guided Journey to Understanding Brioche (October). Buy the pattern now and you’ll receive a discount code worth what you paid, to use toward the eBook, so you’re never paying twice.
