This pattern is inspired by the large round windows of the French cathedral Notre Dame, which sadly burned in April 2019. The type of windows are called rose windows, and they can be found on many large cathedrals all over the world. I chose this particular cathedral to inspire the design for Quebec, part of my ongoing Canadian Geography Series eBook, because of the historic ties of the province to France. The design begins with a nod to the south rose window, and of course, Quebec is kinda like a Rose of the North.

Pattern available both as charts and as written pattern. Written pattern contains stitch counts. For the MKAL chat and pictures etc, see the LittleGreenDragon group.
A separate file detailing yardage in percent of the total for each row is available.

Available in English only.

Can be worked as a full circle/doily or as a crescent shape shawl. Separate patterns for each shape, make sure to download the correct file.

Difficulty: Advanced. All even/WS rows are worked in pattern, and some special sts require action on the following row. Definitely NOT a TV knit.
Written pattern is available, with stitch counts and written out WS/even rows. Charted patterns will not include stitch counts.

Yarn: Recommended yarn is a 2 ply wool/silk or pure wool in lace weight or heavy lace weight. Other yarn may be suitable too, as long as it will hold a blocking and has good stitch definition with both twisted sts and cables. Full circle prototype was worked in Farbmasche Merino/Silk 1-ply 600 (600 m or 656 yards /100 g), 3 skeins or 300 g needed (215 g was used). Approximately 1300 meters (1400 yards).
Crescent shape was worked in Knit Pick’s Gloss Lace wool/silk blend with 440 yards(402 meters) / 50 g skein. I used 2.7 skeins or 135 g, 1085.4 meters (1187.0 yards). Your own yardage may differ!

Construction: Full circle is worked from the inside and out in the round. Crescent is worked flat. Picot bind off worked either with a crochet hook or knitted.

Size: Full circle prototype measures 49 inches (125 cm) diameter after blocking/relaxing. Crescent measures 19 inches (48 cm) deep and 51 inches (130 cm) wingspan. It is possible to work a crescent version with less wedges, 6 wedges instead of 8 as written. And the full circle can be worked with even more wedges, to make it more wearable as a shawl when folded in half.
Adjust depth/diameter by changing needle size and yarn. Pattern is 140/141 rows and cannot be extended or cut short.

Needles: Size US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle or the size you need to get a fabric you like.

Beads: Toho seed beads size 8/0 and cubes size 3 mm were used. The cubes were used for all gathered sts and for nupps. To do the same for the full circle, you will need 43 cubes and 116 size 8/0 for each wedge, or in all 516 cubes and 1392 size 8/0 for 12 wedges. For the crescent with 8 wedges, 389 cubes and 1023 size 8/0.

Other notions: Stitch markers. Darning needle. Crochet hook in the same size as your needles for cast on (circular) and bind off. Cable needle.
