Any weight yarn can be used for these granny squares. Use the appropriate hook size for the yarn that you are using.
If you are using the squares to make something larger, e.g. a blanket, make sure you have enough yarn for the amount of squares needed.
You can use any combination of colours, or even make them in one colour.
