ERRATA: A previous version of this pattern was missing four rows from the crown decreases section. If you are wondering why you have 60 stitches after completing your crown decreases instead of 18, please download the corrected PDF. Thank you for your patience and so sorry for the confusion!

A chunky knit hat with elegant horseshoe cables and just-right slouch. Stylish & perfect for winter gift-giving (see also matching Rothesay Cowl pattern). Uses 1.25 skeins of Cascade 128 or similar bulky weight yarn. This leaves plenty of leftover yardage for a handmade pom pom if desired.

Worked in the round from the bottom up. Includes charted and written cable pattern instructions.

I used an Italian tubular cast-on for 1x1 ribbing; this is a great cast-on that creates a smooth, professional finish and is also very stretchy. An excellent detailed tutorial for this cast-on can be found here:

http://knitfreedom.com/cast-ons/tubular-italian-cast-on

or feel free to substitute the cast-on of your choice.

This is my very first published pattern on Ravelry, hopefully the first of many! I’m beyond excited to finally be sharing an original design with you. I had so much fun designing it, and I hope you’ll enjoy making it too. Happy knitting! :)

UPDATE: The first version incorrectly stated that the hat body consists of eight identical cabled panels; the actual number of panels is six. I have uploaded a corrected PDF; sorry for the confusion!
